UNIT ORIGINS

My confidence has grown by having the freedom of doing independent research, which has allowed me to take risks and I am more encouraged to challenge myself in trying new things. Moreover, this unit has self-determined me to practice my creative ideas and thoughts into a 2D/3D form.

Throughout the unit, I have tried many new things, which I have never done before. The use of machinery with the combination of textile techniques has inspired me a lot. However, the fear of using the machinery in the studio has gone. In addition, I loved using Photoshop and Illustrator to create my designs/patterns for the laser cutting and 3D printing. I also have tried some interesting textile techniques in this unit, which I have never done before e.g. weaving, using domestic knitting samples and steam press and 3D printing.

I am motivated in working independently by using my ideas into my work and daily routine, which has encouraged me to manipulate different techniques with each other. The idea of experiencing a wide range of textile techniques has opened-up my mind to apply my thoughts to reality.  In addition, working independently allows me to work peacefully and it helps me to engage with my ideas better now.

I have attended the meetings that are hosted by my personal tutor, which helped me to engage with my group better.  The meetings also provide me with the variety of information about the course and about different educational things going around the university.
